MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Austrian government has financed the construction of a monument for the Trostenets Memorial, representatives of the Austrian diplomatic mission in Minsk told BelTA.
Austria is the first country to act upon Belarus’ proposal to build national monuments in commemoration of the victims in the Trostenets Memorial Complex. The monument is supposed to perpetuate memory about more than 10,000 Austrian Jews killed in the death camp near the village of Maly Trostenets. The monument is a result of unique Belarus-Austria cooperation in the area of art, Ambassador of Austria to Belarus Aloisia Worgetter noted.
In her words, innovative solutions were implemented in the course of making the commemorative composition. The materials will allow it to stay unchanged in Belarusian climate.
A symposium with sculptors, who created the monument, will take place in the Belarusian State Academy of Arts on 22 February. Representatives of diplomatic missions in Belarus, students, post-graduate students, professors of the academy are invited to attend the symposium. The symposium is supposed to document ideas and solutions, which emerged in the course of creating the monument, ideas and solutions, which are of historical significance and have artistic value.
