MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) - Calls in the West not to recognize the results of the presidential election in Belarus, which has not even taken place yet, violate the international law and are just absurd, First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Petkevich told the media after the Not-Boring Not-Lecture held as part of the Marathon of Unity in Minsk on 23 January, BelTA has learned.
“In my opinion, this violates all kinds of international practices and the international law, not to mention the fact that it is absurd. Announcing a process as illegitimate before the process has taken place discredits both the organization that makes such statements and the statements themselves,” Natalya Petkevich said.
She stressed that it is quite obvious that such statements are pre-prepared. We have seen this happen many times, she noted. “I do not want to offend them but they look silly. Holding high offices and doing such populist things is not a serious approach. To be honest, there is absolutely nothing to comment on,” Natalya Petkevich stated.
Such statements “cannot carry any importance precisely because they are groundless,” she emphasized. “For some reason they rushed ahead. Maybe they were afraid to do it on Monday [after the election day] ,” she added.
