MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will not be able to send observers to the presidential election in Belarus, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh told the media on 7 July, BelTA has learned.
Andrei Savinykh commented on the House of Representatives' plans to invite foreign colleagues to observe the election in Belarus. He informed that “the issue is in the works”.
“I have already discussed this topic with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Of course, we are interested in inviting our colleagues. But the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has already said that it will not be able to send its observers. This is due to the epidemiological situation,” Andrei Savinykh noted.
The MP expressed hope that “Belarus would be able to invite MPs from the CIS or do it on a bilateral basis.”
The presidential election in Belarus will be held on 9 August.
