MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – I am confident that the upcoming election campaign in the country will go well, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he answered a question from Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin on 24 October in Kazan, BelTA has learned.

"The election will go well. I have no doubt about it. You, probably, have no doubt either that we will cope with this difficult situation and deal with all political issues," the head of state said.

As BelTA reported earlier, on 26 October the CEC received the documents on the registration of an initiative group in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate.

Earlier, in an interview with Izvestia, Aleksandr Lukashenko also said that Belarus is ready for the election and is ready to respond to any provocations.

“We do not rule out that there may be some insinuations, provocations and so on. But this [2020 events] will not happen again. We will not allow it, because we know who is behind it, thanks to Mike Pompeo (former CIA director and secretary of state). We once met with him in Belarus. In a conversation with Vovan and Lexus [Russian pranksters] Pompeo said ‘No, we did not get it done’ as they discussed Belarus,” the head of state noted.

“Well, what more proof of interference in our election and of the desire to turn the country upside down do you need? As the president, I had to defend it, and I did it. We defended it. We are ready for the election campaign and are ready to respond to any provocations,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
