Belarus' CEC gets no information on public order violations

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has not received any information on serious violations of public order, CEC Deputy Chairman Vadim Ipatov said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Information that the Central Election Commission has received is related first of all to the administration of the law, the organization of the election process. We have received no information regarding any serious violations of public order. Some issues arise. This is an electoral campaign and in any country it is always emotional, never mind the presidential election. We have already repeated many times that the electoral campaign has drawn a lot of interest. We have a presidential system here and a lot will depend on our choice,” Vadim Ipatov said.

As for cooperation with international observers, Vadim Ipatov said that the Central Election Commission has not received any complaints.

Speaking about the polling stations abroad, the CEC deputy chairman stressed that there are differences in the vote count because of different time zones. “If we take the United States, this is the difference in 12 hours. We start getting the preliminary data at night already,” he explained.

The Central Election Commission of Belarus will get the consolidated data on the foreign polling stations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 15.00 on 10 August. “They will have little impact on the preliminary results that are to be announced at 9.00 on 10 August. This is the experience of the previous electoral campaigns. They [data on the foreign polling stations] can make adjustments to the final result, but not significant ones. We are talking about the preliminary results. The Central Election Commission will announce the final result after getting all the protocols from oblast commissions on 14 August,” Vadim Ipatov said.
