MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – The bulk of foreign observers will start arriving in Belarus to monitor the presidential elections on 8 October, head of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“Tomorrow we expect quite a lot of our colleagues from the CIS: Armenian, Uzbek, and Tajik delegations,” Lidia Yermoshina informed. According to her, the observers from Latvia will arrive on Friday; the head of the Central Election Commission of Russia Vladimir Churov will fly in the evening. "There are very many morning flights: from Moldova, Ukraine and so on,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.
On the eve of the Election Day, Lidia Yermoshina will meet with a delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State. “On Saturday I have a meeting with observers from the CIS mission. On Friday afternoon I will give a briefing to the OSCE short-term observers arriving in Belarus,” added Lidia Yermoshina.
In addition, Saturday morning the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission will meet with the SCO observation mission. Lidia Yermoshina also recalled that a Chinese delegation will monitor the election in Belarus in an independent capacity for the first time. She is to meet with its representatives on Saturday.
According to the latest data, Belarus has accredited 918 international observers: 344 from the OSCE/ODIHR, 19 from the electoral authorities of foreign states, 382 from the CIS, 64 from the diplomatic corps, and 19 independent observers.
