MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) - Members of the short-term observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) are satisfied with the election campaign in Belarus, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told BelTA after the meeting with OSCE PA Vice President Kent Harstedt on 22 September.
Lidia Yermoshina noted that Kent Harstedt was accompanied by two other members of the mission. “They have so far expressed satisfaction with the election campaign in Belarus. Besides, they said they hope that the election day will give no reason for disappointment,” she added.
Lidia Yermoshina said that Kent Harstedt asked her about the electoral process in Belarus. She told him about the events organized within the framework of the election campaign. Kent Harstedt and his colleagues were interested to learn about the formation of election commissions, the provision of air time to the candidates, and the procedure for compiling voters' lists.
Lidia Yermoshina specified that it is Kent Harstedt who will be heading the OSCE PA mission of short-term observers.
The website of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights reads that some 400 OSCE PA short-term observers will arrive in Belarus on 7 October to monitor the presidential election.
