MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Eleven observers of the OSCE/ODIHR mission have arrived in Belarus so far, Chairperson of the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina told BelTA after the meeting with the head of mission Jacques Faure.
"Although we have only 11 observers in the country so far, the CEC has issued the certificates for all 48 people. The other 37 will arrive in the country next week,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
She reported that Jacques Faure informed her who will work in the mission, and how they are planning their work. The head of the mission asked the CEC to assist in providing documents, establishing contacts, and so on. Lidia Yermoshina promised Jacques Faure that such assistance will be provided. Lidia Yermoshina informed the OSCE/ODIHR head on the first stage of the election campaign which had already completed. The CEC head and the head of the mission discussed the work with people’s complaints and the potential candidates for the post of the President of Belarus.
Jacques Faure served as the ambassador of France to Ukraine and a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group mediating the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The diplomat will meet with Belarusian journalists in Minsk on 26 August.
