MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) - Alternative candidates at the presidential election in Belarus lacked political popularity and recognizability, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told media on 12 October, BelTA informs.
“In my opinion they lacked political popularity and recognizability in the society. Let’s say the people had problems with the choice, I mean, when the choice was made not in favor of the incumbent head of state but when people considered other variants. The lack of authority has lead to a higher percent of votes against all the candidates than in support of any particular figure,” said Lidia Yermoshina.
According to the preliminary data, Alexander Lukashenko gained 83.49%. A total of 6.4% of votes were cast against all the candidates. Tatiana Korotkevich gained 4.42% of the vote, Sergei Gaidukevich - 3.32% and Nikolai Ulakhovich - 1.67%.
Voter turnout in the 2015 president election in Belarus stood at 86.2%.
