MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – TV debates of the candidates for the post of the President of Belarus will take place on 3 October, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told media after the CEC meeting on 6 August, BelTA informs.
“The debates will be broadcast live on 3 October, just ahead of the early election. This is another novelty of the current election campaign,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
In her words, presidential candidates or their proxies can take part in the TV debates. Presidential candidates can also decline to take part in them. If there are more than five candidates for the post of the President, 90 minutes from 5pm to 6.30pm will be allocated for the debates. If there are fewer candidates, 60 minutes will be allocated to broadcast the debates. “The order of holding the debates and their hosts will be determined by the Belarusian TV and Radio Company,” the CEC head said.
