MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – The presidential election in Belarus has been recognized as valid. According to the CEC, voter turnout during the Belarus president election stood at 51.2% as of 12:00, BelTA has learned.
Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik said: “It doesn’t mean that voting is over. Voting will be over only at 20:00.”
The highest voter turnout has been registered in Vitebsk Oblast (59.8%), with the lowest turnout registered in the city of Minsk (39.29%). Voter turnout abroad was 50.51%.
The figures indicate that the voter turnout is now beyond the valid election threshold the legislation specifies. In accordance with the Electoral Code, a Belarus president election is recognized as valid if over half of the registered voters have cast their votes. In turn, a presidential candidate has to win over half of the votes to win the presidential election.
