MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – This year’s presidential election can enable new conditions and opportunities for Belarus, BelTA learned from OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice President Kent Harstedt on 2 July as he met with top officials of the Central Election Commission of Belarus.
Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina, CEC Secretary Nikolai Lozovik, member of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valentina Leonenko, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Belarus Martin Aberg took part in the meeting.
Representatives of Belarus’ CEC told BelTA that during the meeting Lidia Yermoshina and Nikolai Lozovik described the electoral system and the election process in Belarus as well as presidential elections. The sides discussed the organization of international observation of presidential elections in Belarus and sketched out prospects for future cooperation.
The Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is in Belarus on a visit on 30 June – 2 July. While in Belarus Kent Harstedt has already met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko and his deputy Viktor Guminsky, who leads the Belarusian parliament’s delegation in the OSCE PA. A meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna also took place.
