Presidential election 2015 in Belarus

BREST, 9 September (BelTA) - Long-term observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) representing six countries have started monitoring the president election in Brest Oblast, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairperson of the Brest Regional Election Commission Natalia Grigorieva.

Three groups of the OSCE observers from the UK, Germany, Russia, Ireland, Poland, and Norway have been deployed in Brest Oblast. The international representatives are getting acquainted with the process of preparations for the election. They hold meetings with senior officials of the executive committees, and attend meetings of the territorial election commissions. Long-term observers have visited the Bereza, Ivatsevichi, Gantsevichi, Kobrin and Stolin districts, Brest, and Pinsk. "They work according to their schedule. We have received no complaints regarding the work of the territorial commissions from the observers,” said Natalya Grigorieva.

In addition to the OSCE/ODIHR representatives, the election campaign in Brest Oblast is monitored by national observers. Most of them are representatives of public organizations such as the Belaya Rus, BRSM Youth Union, Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions, the Belarusian Union of Women, the Belarusian Union of Veterans. The Belarusian Social and Sports Party, Communist Party of Belarus, Republican Party of Labor and Justice have also sent their representatives.

National and international observers will monitor not only the preparations for the president election but also the voting day on 11 October. They will monitor the opening of polling stations, the voting, and vote count.
