MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – A written invitation for the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to monitor the forthcoming presidential election in Belarus will be handed over during the OSCE PA session, which is scheduled to take place in Helsinki on 5-9 July, BelTA learned from Viktor Guminsky, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, head of the Belarusian delegation in the OSCE PA, on 30 June.
Viktor Guminsky added that the verbal invitation would be voiced during his meeting with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice President Kent Harstedt later that day.
Viktor Guminsky emphasized that Belarus is going to invite every party willing to monitor the election.
The head of the Belarusian delegation in the OSCE PA stated that the Belarusian side negatively views the operation of the OSCE’s working group on Belarus. “One of the clauses of the group’s mandate specifies the achievement of national reconciliation in Belarus. It is totally absurd,” said Viktor Guminsky.
Yet he noted that relations between Belarus and the OSCE PA have been constructive lately. The OSCE PA leadership has repeatedly mentioned the activeness of the Belarusian delegation. “Today we have an opportunity to step up our constructive cooperation,” said Viktor Guminsky.
