One day left is left before the signature collection campaign is over. Most initiative groups announced they have raked in 100,000 signatures. Once the signature sheets are verified by the election commissions, the nominees will become the candidates for the President of the Republic of Belarus.
According to the latest data, the initiative group of Alexander Lukashenko has gathered the most signatures - more than 1 million.
Sergei Gaidukevich’s initiative group reported that they collected more than 130,000 signatures. The team stopped collecting signatures at the end of last week, and was busy verifying the signature sheets. At the moment, almost all of them have already been submitted to the territorial election commissions. Staff coordinator Oleg Gaidukevich explained that only a small number of signature sheets have been left and they will be handed over soon.
Viktor Tereshchenko’s initiative group started submitting the signature sheets to the territorial election commissions today. “I cannot say how many signatures we have collected so far. However, we believe we did a good job. Everything went smooth, without violations,” head of the initiative group Oleg Nesterkov said. According to the latest data, Viktor Tereshchenko collected 128,000 signatures.
Tatiana Korotkevich’s initiative group did not specify the number of signatures collected but noted that they plan to submit nearly 120,000 signatures to the election commissions on 21 August.
According to Mikhail Obrazov, head of Dmitry Ulakhovich’s initiative group, 100,000 signatures have been collected. The initiative group expects that as many as 110,000 signatures will be submitted to the territorial election commissions on 21 August.
There is no information regarding signatures collected to support Sergei Kalyakin. Valery Ukhnalev, head of the initiative group, said that 70,000 signatures were collected last week. Sergei Kalyakin’s group has not counted the total yet.
According to Viktor Korneyenko, head of Anatoly Lebedko’s initiative group, an estimated 50,000 signatures were collected as of 17 August. The group is expected to hold the final counting on 21 August.
One more prospective presidential candidate Zhanna Romanovskaya is not yet ready to name the number of signatures collected in her support.
