MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Head of the CIS election observation mission in Belarus Sergei Lebedev told media on 10 October that he expected a high turnout at the presidential election in Belarus on 11 October. Sergei Lebedev talked to media after a visit to the polling station at the dormitory of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University, BelTA informs.
“I think that the turnout on 11 October will be high. We can feel it through contacts with voters. We see high interest of Belarusian citizens in casting their vote for the candidate they believe deserve it,” said Sergei Lebedev.
According to the head of the mission, the early voting turnout was pretty high. “We believe that the people’s active position has been promoted by a large-scale pre-election campaign. I personally watched mass media, looked through the country’s main newspapers. I believe that the civil duty should be performed. Inactivity means the country can be taken over by people who may disappoint their voters,” he said.
