MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – The alliance of election observation missions have come to Belarus as friends, head of this group of international observers Henrik H. Kroner told media on 17 September, BelTA informs.
“Our goal here is to see whether the elections are conducted in the proper way. We have come here as friends, but as friends that may criticize,” said Henrik H. Kroner.
He also cited the words of writer Jose Ortega y Gasset that the development of any democracy depends on details, including the organization of the elections.
The alliance of election observation missions plans to meet with the candidates for the post of the President of Belarus. “Our first question will be whether they feel free in their movement and statements,” noted Henrik H. Kroner.
On 17 September the representatives of the alliance held meetings in the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the Belarusian side assured the international observers that all necessary conditions would be created for their work in the country. Henrik H. Kroner told media that the monitoring group had arrived in the country on Belarus’ invitation. According to the head of the mission, the alliance will monitor the election campaign with the help of students from the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Belarusian State University. The international observers will also make a computer analysis of media publications.
