MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – French diplomat Jacques Faure has been appointed head of the mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) that will monitor the president election in Belarus, BelTA learned from the OSCE/ODIHR.
Jacques Faure served as the ambassador of France to Ukraine and a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group mediating the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The diplomat will meet with Belarusian journalists in Minsk on 26 August. On the same day, he will hold a meeting with Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.
Around 40 long-term and 400 short-term OSCE observers are expected to monitor the president election in Belarus. Besides, over 40 long-term observers from the CIS member-states will take part in the monitoring process. All in all, the CIS mission will comprise some 400 observers including representatives of the CIS IPA, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the State Duma of Russia, the Federation Council, and representatives of the CIS member states. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization also expressed desire to take part in monitoring the election.
