MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – The presidential election campaign in Belarus meets the international election standards, Austrian sociologist, Doctor of Political Sciences Christian Haerpfer said in an interview to the Belarus One TV channel, BelTA informs.
“The election process, the collection of voter signatures in support of candidates are calm and peaceful . We do not hear any complaints from the presidential candidates and their initiative groups. That means it is a successful campaign which meets the international election standards. There is no unrest, violence, illegal actions, so my feelings are solely positive,” said Christian Haerpfer.
He also stressed that Belarus had managed to build an independent state which is recognized by the UN, the Council of Europe, which is an honored member of the international community and demonstrates its strong civil society, its strong state institution. “Belarus shows everyone that it is possible to live in peace next to huge countries,” Christian Haerpfer said.
