MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina presented a certificate to head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev on the occasion of the deployment of the CIS observation mission, BelTA has learned.
Lidia Yermoshina noted that according to the tradition, certificate No. 1 at president elections in Belarus is given to Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.
Lidia Yermoshina noted that the CEC has accredited a total of 33 international observers from the CIS. "Starting from today the CIS mission is officially open. This is the fourth election observation mission at the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus in the history of the CIS," she said.
"I am absolutely confident that the staff of the mission and all those who will come here for short-term observation will have no problems,” Lidia Yermoshina said. “Everyone who will come to Belarus this time work in close cooperation with the CIS. They all know the Belarusian electoral legislation, know the local election conditions and traditions. I am sure we will have constructive relations, which will benefit the entire monitoring process, will contribute to and, quite possibly, help us advance our law enforcement practices during the election campaign,” she added.
