MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Only voters may judge on the fairness of the voting in any state, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Vladimir Churov told in an interview to the Belarus One TV Channel on 11 October, BelTA informs.
“Reports of the OSCE/ODIHR mission have never been fully objective, in my opinion. We, in Russia, have already learned how to divide ODIHR documents into two parts: the professional one directly related to the organization of the elections and the politicized one which we take no notice of. There is no such notion as legitimacy in respect to the authority. There is the notion “the election was held according to the law”, or not. Either the authority is elected in a legal way or in an illegal way. “Legitimacy” has been brought about by people who would like to operate the domestic structure of the state from outside. I believe it contradicts the UN Charter,” noted Vladimir Churov.
Vladimir Churov took note of a high early voting turnout. “It is important that domestic observers were present at every stage of the voting in Belarus. Domestic observers in Belarus said that their tally of early votes coincided with the official data,” noted the head of the Russian CEC.
In his words, the more transparent the elections are, the more evident the smallest shortcomings are.
Vladimir Churov believes that sanctions introduced against Belarus are the same illegal as the ones imposed on Russia. “The cancelation of sanctions against Belarus will be a logical outcome of the whole range of domestic and foreign political factors. Alexander Lukashenko is absolutely right saying that international standards do not exist and everything in the politics are done proceeding from the interests of this or that group of countries,” he said.
The Chairman of the Russian CEC is confident that the main result of the presidential election in Belarus is to preserve stable and peaceful development of Russia’s friendly state.
