MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) - The Chinese observation mission considers that the president vote in Belarus was held at a high level and in conformity with the national legislation and international standards, head of the Chinese international observation mission, Chinese Foreign Ministry Ambassador Yu Zhenqi said in the CEC Information Center, BelTA has learned.
Yu Zhenqi said that every country has developed its own electoral process practices. "But there are international standards. Having visited polling stations we had the impression that the election was compliant with the legislation of Belarus and international norms,” he said.
The head of the CIS observation mission concurred with the view that every country has its own democratic model. “Every state, every nation has the right to develop its democratic model corresponding to the universally recognized international norms,” he said.
It is no good imposing artificially a model of democracy on other states just because it did well in another country, said Yu Zhenqi. "To respect the political principles, to respect the choice of the people is the true democratic principle,” he concluded.
