MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Representatives of the presidential candidates took part in the session of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus in a consultative capacity for the first time during this election campaign, BelTA has learned.
Attending the meeting is Nikolai Ulakhovich’s representative Ilya Ulakhovich, Sergei Gaidukevich’s representative Leonid Babichev and Tatiana Korotkevich’s representative Igor Lyalkov.
The CEC session approved the list of documents that can be presented at the polling station in order to get a ballot paper. CEC Chairwoman Lidia Yermoshina noted that due to different reasons not everyone will have passports with them on election day. For example, passports can be undergoing visa procedures at the embassy.
In order to cast their vote people may use a driver’s license, a military service record card, a service certificate of a public sector worker, a student ID card, a note from the interior bodies proving the loss of the passport, a pension certificate (if it has a photo). The abovementioned documents are allowed only if the voter has already been included into the voters’ list.
Igor Lyalkov suggested reducing the list to only two documents. He also wondered why only service certificates of public sector workers are allowed in the voting.
Lidia Yermoshina explained that the service certificate of the public sector worker proves the Belarusian citizenship of its holder. In her words, the preliminary check is a guarantee to prevent people that do not have the Belarusian citizenship from voting.
