MOSCOW, 6 October (BelTA) – Belarusian citizens living in Russia have been taking advantage of early voting ahead of the 11 October presidential election in Belarus, BelTA learned from Minister-Counselor at the Belarusian embassy in Russia, chairman of the precinct election commission No.106 in Moscow Yuri Yaroshevich.
“We did not expect the turnout to be so high on the first day of early voting,” said the diplomat.
In his words, voters come to the polling station in a good mood, and examine with interest the new building of the Business and Culture Center of the embassy where the polling station is located this time.
The list of voters in Moscow includes a little more than 1,000 people. “These are the people who have accepted our invitation to take part in the voting. Belarusian nationals who are not included into the voters’ list come as well,” said the chairman of the commission.
According to Yuri Yaroshevich, the main goal of the commission is to secure transparent voting at the polling site. The embassy also attaches increased attention to security issues. Apart from that, diplomats will do their best to turn the main voting day into a celebration for Belarusian citizens. On 11 October the polling station in Moscow will offer a trading fair of the Belarusian national dishes.
Four voting sites have been set up in Russia: in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Rostov-on-Don. Both Belarusians that permanently reside in Russia and those that stay temporarily in the country may cast their votes at these polling stations. In order to vote Belarusian citizens should be prepared to present their IDs.
