Vitebsk Oblast elects 310 delegates to Belarusian People's Congress

VITEBSK, 31 December (BelTA) – Vitebsk Oblast will be represented at the 6th Belarusian People's Congress by 310 delegates – representatives of various fields and organizations, BelTA has learned.

As many as 310 delegates from Vitebsk Oblast will take part in the 6th Belarusian People's Congress that will be held in Minsk on 11-12 February. The delegates include representatives of industrial enterprises, the housing and utilities sector, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, cultural establishments, mass media outlets, and the military. All the delegates were nominated by councils of deputies and public associations.

The presidiums of district and city councils of deputies together with local organizing committees compiled a list of delegates to this important social and political event on 29-30 December. Out of the elected delegates, 172 people are members of the local councils of deputies.

Public associations also took part in the process to elect delegates to the congress. For example, the regional association of trade unions is represented by 60 people, the regional branch of the Belaya Rus public association by 45, and the BRSM Youth Union by 17. The delegation of Vitebsk Oblast will also include six veterans and ten representatives of the Belarusian Union of Women.

Vitebsk Oblast has also compiled a list of reserve delegates. It includes 57 people who will take part in the congress if the main delegates are unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.

The 6th Belarusian People’s Congress will discuss the main provisions of Belarus’ social and economic development program for 2021-2025 and major areas of the country’s social and political development. The congress will bring together 2,700 participants.
