MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – No Belarusian People's Congress has been preceded by such a wide public discussion on the further development of the country, Andrei Kuntsevich, the head of the working group of the national organizing committee for the preparation of the congress, deputy head of the Belarus President Administration, told BelTA.
“Thanks to the dialogue platforms, public and parliamentary community liaison offices we are doing a kind of inventory of the most pressing problems facing the Belarusian society and the state. In this way we get the feel of what people are concerned most with, what Belarus they want to see in the future. The analysis of the proposals submitted to the working group shows the increased social and civic activity of citizens,” Andrei Kuntsevich noted.
According to him, the proposals mainly address the topical issues in the long-term perspective. Taking into account the current geopolitical situation, many participants of the public discussions propose to enshrine in the constitution the value of national sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Belarus, historical and cultural identity of the people, memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, information and environmental security.
“Many suggest redistributing the powers between the branches of government, adjusting the electoral system, developing public institutions, increasing the role of local government and self-government, and developing the conceptual foundations and values of Belarusian society. Eleven political parties out of 15 and the leading public associations have communicated their positions on the further development of our state to the working group. To date, more than 10,000 proposals have been collected and systematized. We continue accepting them,” the deputy head of the President Administration noted.
