Opinion: Economic issues should set the pace at Belarusian People’s Congress

BREST, 2 May (BelTA) – The search for the ways to address economic issues should set the pace at the 5th Belarusian People’s Congress, Baranovichi Mayor Yuri Gromakovsky told BelTA.

“The global situation is rapidly changing, developing. We should be, so to say, on trend. I think that first of all the congress will discuss economic issues that our country is currently dealing with. Economy is the basis of independence. The President was right saying that with our companies operating we should fear nothing,” Yuri Gromakovsky noted.

The issues of employment are also relevant today. “This is what we, heads, should deal with on site on a daily basis. The city has been tasked with opening new companies, creating new jobs, improving employment. The Q1 2016 task has been fulfilled. I believe we will fulfill our annual task as well,” the Baranovichi Mayor said.

Yuri Gromakovsky was a delegate of the 4th Belarusian People’s Congress. He noted that the tradition of organizing such forums had proved efficient. “I think this form of a conversation with the people has justified itself. This is a way to approve a five-year action plan for the country’s development. I believe it brings great results,” Yuri Gromakovsky said.
