MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – The 6th Belarusian People’s Congress will shape the future of Belarus, expert with the national public association Belaya Rus Piotr Petrovsky told BelTA.

“The Belarusian People’s Congress will be very crucial and will shape the future of Belarus,” Piotr Petrovsky said. “The president has announced the agenda of the congress. First of all, it includes the amendments to the Constitution. I believe that the Belarusian People’s Congress will discuss the amendments and will suggest putting them to a referendum. The other important matter is the country’s development program for the next five-year period that is traditionally adopted by the Belarusian People’s Congress,” he noted.

According to the expert, the Belarusian People’ Congress is unique because it traditionally brings together delegates from all over the country who represent all groups of the society. “It is no secret that there are issues with democratic institutions in Western countries. Many political experts even use the term ‘particracy’. The Belarusian People’s Congress is the instrument aimed at avoiding the formation of this small group of so-called elite professional politicians that is shut off from the society’s problems. At present, this is the most representative body, and after it becomes a constitutional body, it will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future,” he noted,

The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will take place in Minsk on 11-12 February 2021. The main provisions of Belarus' social and economic development program for 2021-2025, as well as the trends of the country's social and political development will be discussed by the participants of the Congress. The total number of the participants and invitees will be 2,700 people.
