MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - The president's initiative to make the Belarusian People's Congress a constitutional body is very timely, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valentina Nazarenko said in an interview to the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper.
“Dialogue platforms have been organized across the country. People can express their opinions there, make suggestions for further social and economic development of the country, for the improvement of the political system. All opinions and ideas will be collected and submitted to the Belarusian People's Congress. The president’s initiative to make the Belarusian People's Congress a constitutional body was voiced in a very timely manner. In my opinion, it is objective and fair, because there will be representatives from labor collectives, political parties, public associations, people of different ages and professions at the forum. They will discuss and make decisions on issues of the state development strategy for five years. It is logical to give them the right to control the implementation of the adopted decisions,” the MP said.
Valentina Nazarenko stated that people are the only source of state power and the bearer of sovereignty in the country. “I agree with the proposal to elect delegates to the Belarusian People's Congress for five years. There have recently been proposals at various levels to transfer part of the powers of the head of state to the parliament, the government, ministers and governors. This process should not in any way lead to a misbalance of state power and the political system as a whole. It would be right to increase the role and status of the delegates of the Belarusian People's Congress, who would monitor the implementation of the adopted five-year development program,” the MP added.
