MOGILEV, 30 December (BelTA) – Delegates to the 6th Belarusian People’s Congress were elected at the session of the Mogilev Council of Deputies on 29 December, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Council of Deputies Maksim Gurin.

“One of the most important issues at the session was the election of delegates to the Belarusian People's Congress. We elected 36 people: 24 deputies of the City Council and 12 - of the regional one. All these people actively participated in the work of dialogue platforms. They know what problems our citizens are concerned about at the moment. They collected initiatives and proposals from the residents of the city. Each of them will come to the Belarusian People’s Congress with ready ideas which will be voiced at such a high level,” Maksim Gurin said.

According to Maksim Gurin, the Belarusian People's Congress will consider all the most important issues that will help bring the country's development to a new level. “Economy remains one of the most important aspects of the successful development of any state. The more successful the economy is, the better the state of other sectors will be. This year's pandemic has shown that the more efficiently production works and the more the budget is filled, the more opportunities we have to quickly repurpose and supply healthcare facilities. Our successes must both be preserved and multiplied in the future,” Maksim Gurin said.

The Belarusian People's Congress is an important stage in the development of the state. “It will not only summarize the results of the past five-year period but also adopt a state development strategy for the near future. I, as a deputy, expect that the issues of enhancing the role of local government and self-government and expanding their powers in the social, economic and other areas will be worked out,” said Maksim Gurin.

The patriotic education of young people cannot be ignored either. “It is necessary to remember the past and build a future based on historical memory. We must be able to draw conclusions and continue developing a peaceful Belarus, basing on the experience of our ancestors. The Belarusian People's Congress will be a necessary stage that will help the country's competent development, taking into account the current realities,” said the chairman of the Mogilev Council of Deputies.
