MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian People’s Congress is the supreme form of democracy, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Anatoly Isachenko told journalists as he spoke about expectations from the 6th Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.
“The preparations are in full swing: Belarusians are busy holding discussions and electing delegates. The head of state stressed that the delegates should represent all groups of the society: the intelligentsia, the working class, the youth, and our respected elders. The delegates should be competent people who will voice their point of view and propose ways of our country’s development. Of course, we all expect the Belarusian People’s Congress to be an epochal moment, so to say. The congress and the nation make fateful decisions for the country and outline the path of development and strategic areas,” Anatoly Isachenko said.
According to him, Belarusians are actively submitting their proposals ahead of the Belarusian People’s Congress. “We have received various proposals – about 10,000 so far. Of course, we need to collect all of them,” he noted. “To my mind, the most important thing is that people are not indifferent: they get involved in discussions, put forward their ideas. This is about the future of our country and we should make decisions together. I believe that the Belarusian People’s Congress is the supreme form of democracy,” Anatoly Isachenko added.
The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will take place in Minsk on 11-12 February 2021. The main provisions of Belarus' social and economic development program for 2021-2025, as well as the trends of the country's social and political development will be discussed by the participants of the Congress. The total number of the participants and invitees will be 2,700 people.
