MOSCOW, 5 May (BelTA) – Participants of the operation to liberate Belarus were honored in a ceremony in the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
Presenting the letters of greetings from the Belarusian head of state on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory to Russian veterans, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko stressed that Belarus has always honored those who liberated the Belarusian land. According to him, in Belarus there are over 7,500 war graves where more than 2.5 million soldiers and officers were buried. Only 450,000 of them have been identified.
"It was Soviet soldiers, partisans and workers of the rear who achieved the victory, and this fact is not subject to any revision. Soviet soldiers saved the whole Europe from the Nazism and it should be thankful to its liberators,” the Ambassador said.
