MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Two young athletes will represent Belarus at the women's table tennis tournament (individual events) at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, senior coach of the Belarusian women’s table tennis team Tatyana Petkevich told the media at the press center of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House on 14 March, BelTA has learned.

The coach noted that Nadezhda Bogdanova and Daria Trigolos will compete in the individual events and the experienced Viktoria Pavlovich will help in the team tournament. “It is difficult to play in front of the home crowd. We aim to get into the top eight in the team tournament and therefore asked Viktoria Pavlovich to join in. She is in good shape, continues training. Nadezhda Bogdanova and Daria Trigolos will compete in individual events,” Tatyana Petkevich said.

The young players are making their first successful steps on the international circuit. For example, Nadezhda Bogdanova won a bronze medal at the U21 European Championships in Portugal in early March. “The success at the youth championships adds responsibility before the European Games in Minsk. For a 18 year old player like me it is difficult to play against experienced rivals, many of whom are Asian players who compete for European teams,”  Nadezhda Bogdanova said.

Players and coaches of the Belarusian team are convinced that the table tennis tournament at the 2nd European Games will be organized in accordance with all international requirements. “Minsk has already hosted tournaments of the Open category. The Belarusian Table Tennis Federation has received a thumbs up for organization of events. Many participants and guests of our competitions say we are the best hosts in Europe. The federation has a small staff but everyone knows exactly what to do,” Tatyana Petkevich said.

Belarusian Vladimir Samsonov won silver at the 1st European Games in Baku.

The table tennis tournament at the 2nd European Games in Minsk will be held on 22-29 June.  A total of 128 athletes will compete in five medal events:  women's and men’s singles, mixed doubles and women’s and men’s team events.
