MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – All the facilities of the Students Village will be ready for the European Games by 1 May, Deputy Education Minister Sergei Rudy told the media following the meeting of the subcommittee on construction, restoration and equipment of the facilities for the European Games, BelTA has learned.
“The Students Village will serve as the Athletes Village during the European Games. It will accommodate over 6,500 members of official delegations, athletes, and participants of the games. This means great responsibility and strict requirements for us, and we have been consistently fulfilling them. All the facilities of the Students Village will be ready for the European Games by 1 May and will be handed over to MEGOC for further preparation,” Sergei Rudy said.
Nine halls of residence will be used during the European Games. “The renovation is on schedule and within budget. The work in the halls of residence of the Students Village is on track to be complete soon, more furniture and equipment are being installed. Then we will move on to the surrounding territory. Our main goal is to provide participants of the games with highly comfortable living conditions so that nothing upsets their training and performance,” the deputy minister noted.
The participants of the subcommittee meeting went to the Students Village on 12 March to inspect the readiness of its facilities to accommodate official delegations and athletes. They visited the newly constructed 25-storey hall of residence with 1,800 places and the halls of residence where the finishing works are now underway, inspected fully ready rooms which have already been provided with new furniture and equipment. The participants of the meeting also inspected the progress in the preparation of the catering facilities for athletes and participants of the games.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete for medals.
