MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Skateboarding will make part of the cultural program of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019, BelTA learned from the press service of the 2nd European Games Directorate.
Apart from sports competitions, the Minsk European Games scheduled for June 2019 will offer a wide cultural program for residents and guests of the Belarusian capital. One of its participants will be the Belarusian Skateboarding Federation. This sport, which developed about 70 years ago, has already risen from a street entertainment to an Olympic sport: skateboarders will take part in the official competitions of the 32nd Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.
“The inclusion of skateboarding into the cultural program of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019 is quite symbolic, as the official opening of the European Games in Minsk (21 June) coincides with Go Skateboarding Day. A skateboarding park will be installed in the fan zone in Oktyabrskaya Street to mark the occasion,” the directorate said.
The park will hold master classes, exhibition performances and cultural events.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Twelve sport venues will hold about 200 medal events in 15 sports (23 sport disciplines). The Games are expected to attract about 4,000 athletes from 50 countries. Competitions in 10 sports will serve as qualifiers for the 32nd Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
