MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - All facilities that will host the 2nd European Games will be fully ready by 15 May, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas, who heads the 2nd European Games organizing committee in Belarus, said as he attended a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee on 15 April, BelTA has learned.
The prime minister noted that 67 days are left before the start of the European Games in Minsk. The facilities that will be used during the games are almost ready. “By 15 May we need to ensure the full readiness of all facilities,” Sergei Rumas said.
There is a detailed plan of preparation for each sports facility to be engaged in the games. At present, construction of temporary infrastructure is nearing completion; necessary equipment is being purchased.
“Sports facilities have already hosted test competitions in 14 sports during which all the services worked out the algorithm of interaction. From April to early June we will hold test competitions in seven more sports,” the prime minister said and added that the competitions did not reveal any serious problems and received a positive feedback from international experts.
Work on the information technology platform continues. It includes accreditation, personnel management, transportation, logistics, medical and other services. “Its development is almost complete. Individual modules of the system have already been tested. All its services will be tested during athletics competitions in May 2019,” said Sergei Rumas.
He noted that the issues of accommodation of participants and guests of the games have already been settled: “The Student Village will host about 6,000 athletes and coaches. Students have been resettled to other dormitories. Hotels have been designated and rooms have been reserved for representatives of sports delegations, foreign officials and other guests.”
Additional 7,000 places of accommodation will be available for guests and tourists in the Belarusian capital and about 18,000 places more in Minsk Oblast.
The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing, and judo will be held in the format of European championships.
