Plans to purchase 75 tourist buses for guests of 2nd European Games

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – There are plans to purchase 75 tourist bus MAZ-251 to provide transport services to guests of the 2nd European Games, head of the automobile and urban passenger transport department at the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina told the media on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

After the games the buses will be used by Minsk and regional transport companies to provide tourist services.

Public transport will be renewed ahead of the 2nd European Games as well. Some 60 electric buses, about 300 buses (200 for passengers and 100 for athletes) will be purchased for Minsk. Opportunities are sought to introduce the option to pay for the use on surface transport by credit card.

Boris Kleshchenko, a specialist at the traffic management department of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee, said that three types of buses, MAZ-251 (47 seats), Neman (28 seats) and MAZ-203 (26 seats), are used to provide transport services to participants and fans of sports competitions. The central transport hub will be located in Gorodskoi Val street, from where buses will be servicing six routes. Those arriving through the airport will be delivered to this site as well (travel time is 30 minutes).

“The possibility of delivering client groups to the Gonoles facility [a village under the Zhdanovichi village council near Zaslavskoye Reservoir] from the train station is under consideration. Geely cars will also be used,” Boris Kleshchenko added.

He also said that an agreement had been concluded with taxi services not to raise prices.

The 2nd European Games will be held in Minsk on 21-30 June. A total of 12 sport venues will be used during the games, the biggest of which are Dinamo Stadium, Minsk Arena, Chizhovka Arena, and Minsk Sports Palace.
