MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Over 100 designs were submitted on 15 November, the final day of the public design contest for the 2019 Minsk European Games mascot, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Information Ministry.
The competition was opened for four months. A surge in activity among those wishing to take part in the contest was registered on the closing days of the competition. More than 100 designs were submitted to the Information Ministry on 15 November alone.
“Fern flower will be one of the symbols of the European Games. We would like the mascot to correspond to the overall concept of the games. To choose the mascot is not the primary goal of the contest. The main thing is to draw attention to the event, to stir the interest of the public and get Belarusians involved in the preparation of the Second European Games,” Belarus’ First Deputy Information Minister Igor Lutsky said.
One of the conditions of the contest was to submit the mascot electronically in the form of a colored picture, made in any technique. Still the Information Ministry received a lot of handmade drawings, which were made by children and also adults, the ministry informed.
The jury is to select three best works by the end of the month.
