MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – The countdown to the 2nd European Games was given on 15 June when Minsk hosted its first guests, heads of sport teams. They have already been accommodated in the Athletes’ Village, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said as he visited Minsk Sports Palace on 18 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.
“All competition facilities are fully ready to host the games. They have been fitted with necessary equipment and competition-tested together with representatives of the European Olympic Committees. Everything has been done to secure fair play,” the vice premier said.
Igor Petrishenko said that the area near the Sports Palace will host the fan zone. Its format will be both international and national. From 19 till June 30 it will host the NOC presentations of the participating countries: Azerbaijan, Israel, the UK, Georgia, Italy, Hungary, Turkey, Latvia, Russia, Austria, and Romania. The countries will hold the Days of Culture and Traditions. They will feature concerts, theater performances, national cuisine, arts and crafts.
The Sports Palace will host competitions in sambo, Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling.
