Katulin: All European Games facilities, services should deliver as one
MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – All the facilities and services of the Second European Games should deliver as one, director of the Directorate of the Second European Games 2019 George Katulin told the media on 2 March, BelTA has learned.
On 2 March the NOC headquarters in Minsk played host to a meeting between representatives of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the Directorate of the European Games. The meeting focused on cooperation with the Belarusian government, the readiness of sports facilities, the opening and closing ceremonies of the European Games, the implementation of IT technologies, intellectual property rights and many more.
“The sports facilities, which were prepared long time ago, were highly assessed by the EOC members. Belarus has gained vast experience in hosting international sports competitions. The preparations for the Second European Games need an integrated approach. All facilities and services (sports facilities, hotels, catering services, transport, and also the international broadcasting center) will be interconnected to deliver as one. We will do our best to achieve this,” said George Katulin.
George Katulin went to see the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in February to get familiar with the organization of the large-scale sports forum. “For me these are the tenth Olympics, so I can compare the organization of the competitions in Pyeongchang and other places. A meeting with Valerie Fourneyron, the chair of the Independent Testing Authority, was very important. During the meeting of the ITA Executive Committee in Lausanne IOC President Thomas Bach asked our organizing committee to pay special attention to the prevention of the use of prohibited substances during the 2019 European Games. Therefore, the talks with Ms Valerie Fourneyron were very important. The EOC medical delegate Pamela Wenning, who is currently in Minsk, oversees all these issues,” George Katulin noted.
The European Games directorate studied the Pyeongchang experience in catering, the use of temporary structures. “When preparing and holding the European Games we need to use the budget in the most rational way. Temporary structures will help us avoid unnecessary additional costs. They can be rented out and used for catering zones, security zones, referee rooms, tents,” he said.
He also noted that the visit of the members of the EOC Coordination Commission took place earlier than scheduled. This is due to the fact that now all attention will be paid to the preparations for the Second European Games. In the run up to the Open Doors Day of the National Olympic Committees, which will be held in late March, Minsk needs to show its preparedness for the European Games in 2019. The visit of members of the EOC Coordination Commission will last till 3 March.
Minsk will host the Second European Games on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports: badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling(freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women’s wrestling), cycling (track and road), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe competitions), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football.
