MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - The Flame of Peace torch relay of the 2nd European Games was welcomed at the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets on 23 May, BelTA learned from the BelNPP department of information and public relations.
The torch relay was welcomed by dozens of BelNPP personnel. “One of them, repeated winner of athletics competitions, head of shift of the reactor department Vadim Matviychuk had an honor to carry the flame of the 2nd European Games around the premises of the plant,” the BelNPP said.
“Today we welcome the symbolic flame of the 2nd European Games here, at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, one of the most important centers of the energy industry of Belarus. Today, thanks to this event, we have become part of the great European sports history,” Marina Pylinskaya, the BelNPP deputy director general, head of the HR, said at the welcome ceremony.
The flame of the 2nd European Games was lit at Ara Pacis Museum in Rome on 3 May. Then, Belarusian climbers took the torch to the summit of Mont Blanc. The torch traveled through Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia and Poland. In Belarus, the Flame of Peace has already been to Brest Oblast and Grodno Oblast.
Minsk will welcome the Flame of Peace in State Flag Square on 17 June. The torch relay will finish its journey in Minsk at Dinamo National Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games on 21 June.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete for 199 medal sets in 15 sports.
