MINSK, 09 May (BelTA) – The Flame of Peace relay of the 2nd European Games will soon approach Belarus’ borders and Brest will be the first to welcome it on 12 May, BelTA learned from the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC).
The flame will be welcomed at Ceremonial Square in the Brest Fortress at 18.00. On the same day a concert will be given at Lenina Square in the city of Brest to mark the occasion.
The flame will be taken across the most significant landmarks of Brest Oblast. On 12-13 May, the Flame of Peace will be carried by more than 60 torchbearers, including Yulia Nestsiarenka, Yuri Vashchuk (TEO), Georgy Koldun, Elena Vorobei, Oleg Yurenya, Natalya Gelakh, and other famous natives of Brest Oblast.
The Flame of Peace relay kicked off in Rome on 3 May and will finish with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at the Dinamo Stadium on 21 June. The torch will travel through 55 settlements of eight countries (Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Belarus). Its route will make up 7,700km. Taking part in the relay will be 450 torchbearers, 100 volunteers and ten fire guards.
The Flame of the 2nd European Games has already visited Mont Blanc and other landmarks in different countries. The 2nd European Games Flame was welcomed in Austria on 10 May. In Belarus, the flame will be carried through the Belovezhskaya Pushcha national park, the Augustow Canal, the Tadeusz Kosciuszko and Michal Kleofas Oginski estates, the Mir and Nesvizh castles, the Belaruskali salt mines and other places of interest.
