Second European Games in Belarus
BelTA official media partner of 2nd European Games in Minsk
MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA and the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) signed an agreement to establish cooperation and award BelTA the status of an official media partner of the upcoming games, BelTA has learned.
The agreement provides for the prompt coverage of the preparation and conduct of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019 in a broad multimedia format in six languages (Russian, Belarusian, English, Spanish, German, Chinese) at BelTA’s online resources (belta.by, belarus.by). The document also provides for regular publication of information and analytical materials in BelTA’s print outlets: 7 Dnei newspaper, Belaruskaya Dumka journal and the Economy of Belarus magazine.
“The Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA has provided extensive coverage of the preparations for the 2nd European Games, the visits of EOC inspectors, have taken part in all activities. Media outlets have already done a great job: Belarusians in every corner of our country know that Minsk will host a big event in the summer of 2019. It is important that BelTA publishes news in six languages. This makes the European Games more visible to international audiences. Many of the world's leading news agencies, websites such as Inside the Games make use of BelTA’s news items. BelTA runs a section dedicated exclusively to the 2nd European Games, which is convenient for users, including myself,” George Katulin said.
BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich noted that the agency has already released about 450 news items and more than 300 photos dedicated to the 2nd European Games in Minsk. Today the agency will launch a video project to show how athletes, coaches and organizers are preparing for the games. “BelTA has a huge photo archive and plans to launch another project not only about the 2nd European Games but also about sports in Belarus. The project will depict different periods in the life of our country. Today, readers closely follow sports events. For example, our English-language page was highly popular during the 2019 ISU European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk. BelTA will be widely covering the 2nd European Games. The agency will actively cooperate with news agencies it has partnership agreements with, and also with the Association of National News Agencies,” said the director general.
The official media partners of the 2nd European Games also include the Belarus Segodnya publishing house. It incorporates the newspapers SB. Belarus Segodnya, Respublika, Narodnaya Gazeta, Selskaya Gazeta, Znamya Yunosti, the internet resource sb.by, and the Alfa Radio station.
“Nowadays, sport is an essential part of social and political life of not only our country but also of entire continents. The goal of our publishing house is to deliver a complete and objective picture of the preparations and the organization of the 2nd European Games, to convey emotions at sports venues. Belarus Segodnya has already started covering the upcoming sport forum. The press center of the 2nd European Games is already in operation. Athletes and coaches come to tell about the preparations for the forthcoming competitions. We also attach great importance to social networks. For example, the ceremony to sign a cooperation agreement with the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee has already been watched by about 1,500 visitors,” Editor-in-Chief of the publishing house Dmitry Zhuk said.
Belarus won the right to host the 2nd European Games in 2019 at the 45th meeting of the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in Minsk in October 2016.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
