MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Forty-three sport federations would like to be present at the Second European Games that are due to take place in Minsk in 2019, Head of the Directorate for the Second European Games 2019 fund Georgy Katulin told the media on 22 September, BelTA has learned.
“The forthcoming sport forum in Belarus has caught the attention of many sport federations. Applications have been received from 43 sport federations. We, however, had an agreement with the European Olympic Committees to consider sports for the existing sport infrastructure with a view to optimize the expenditure. We chose 15 sports. I am confident that it will be a spectacular sport program,” the director of the fund said.
The joint meeting of the EOC Coordination Commission and the Directorate for the Second European Games in Minsk also focused on the organization of broadcasting the event. There is a need to secure high-quality and smooth broadcasting from 12 arenas. “Two TV companies have been chosen so far. The first one covered several Olympic Games, including the First European Games in Baku. The second company also has a rich experience in broadcasting sport events and is currently covering the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat. The EOC main requirement is the quality of transmission. The tender will stay open through mid October,” said Georgy Katulin.
The Second European Games are scheduled for 21-30 June 2019. They will feature 15 sports: badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling(freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women’s wrestling), cycling (track cycling and road bicycle racing), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe competitions), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football. 189 medals events will be held in 23 sport disciplines.
