All sports facilities ready for 2nd European Games in Minsk

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – All sports facilities are ready to host the 2nd European Games that will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June, Aleksei Bogdanovich, head for communications, public relations and mass media at the Directorate of the 2nd European Games 2019 told a press conference on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

“All the sports facilities have been prepared already. The Timoshenko shooting complex was the last to be commissioned. It has recently hosted a national competition. Minsk is a good choice for the 2nd European Games, because the Belarusian capital has already hosted major international events. Representatives of the European Olympic Committees were pleasantly surprised that the facilities were ready long before the start of the games,” Aleksei Bogdanovich said.

He noted that four fan zones will open in Minsk in the run-up to the European Games. The biggest of them will be arranged near the Palace of Sports. It will be open on 19-30 June and will feature food stands, souvenirs, arts and crafts, presentation venues for Belarusian regions. The other fan zones will be located near the Minsk Arena, Chizhovka Arena and the Dynamo Stadium. Visitors to these fan zones will be able to purchase national dishes and souvenirs.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing and judo will be counted as the official European championships. The European Games will be held at 12 sports facilities, including the Palace of Sports, Minsk Arena, Chizhovka Arena and the Dynamo Stadium.
