MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei hopes that as the presiding country in the European Union Council Latvia will be able to find a mutually acceptable format for the Belarus-EU dialogue. The Belarusian Foreign Minister made the statement as he met with his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkevics on 19 February, BelTA has learned.
“We enjoy good political, economic, and humanitarian relations with Latvia. I am convinced that your presidency in the EU Council will allow us to find a mutually acceptable format of the dialogue between Belarus and the European Union,” said Vladimir Makei.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister mentioned positive dynamics of Belarus-Latvia relations and pointed out that the majority of the agreements reached by the ministries and agencies are being fulfilled. Among other things Vladimir Makei mentioned the open exchange of opinions, including opinions about the international agenda.
In turn, Edgars Rinkevics said that Latvia is interested in promoting constructive Belarus-EU relations and mentioned Belarus’ role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine’s southeast. In his words, Latvia is ready to cooperate with Belarus in political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.
