MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – A swift collegial dialogue between the ministries of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia is particularly in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic conditions. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement after a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian one on 26 November, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs welcomed his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Minsk “at a complicated time for the entire world and for our countries due to the coronavirus pandemic”.
Vladimir Makei believes it is significant that the traditional meeting to compare notes – the joint meeting of the collegiums – was held face-to-face. “In any family – I will allow myself to use this analogy – it is important to be able to sincerely discuss some matters directly and seeing each other’s eyes. Today we did just that while, naturally, observing all the epidemiological precautions,” Vladimir Makei noted.
After the meeting Vladimir Makei mentioned the friendly and constructive nature of interaction between the two ministries. “Joint systemic documents, the coordinated stance in the international scene, mutual support in international organizations testify to the effectiveness of our cooperation,” he said. “A swift collegial dialogue of the two ministries of foreign affairs is particularly in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic conditions.”
