MOSCOW, 19 January (BelTA) – It is important to pursue the Minsk Protocol to resolve the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said commenting on the continued bloodshed on the Ukrainian territory, CSTO Spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.
“The recent developments in the south-eastern part of Ukraine arouse serious concern. The confrontation is heating up; the hostilities are escalating, which has a devastating toll on the military and the civilian population. Houses, hospitals and schools are being destroyed,” the CSTO Secretary General said. He emphasized that hostilities have never led to the resolution of political disagreements.
Nikolai Bordyuzha strongly called to put an end to the devastating confrontation. He believes that it is unacceptable to let the conflict spiral upward in severity and has urged to keep looking for ways to resolve it peacefully. “It is imperative to use all the opportunities available. First of all, we should push for implementing the Minsk Protocol, sticking to the peace and quiet order and pulling heavy weaponry back on each side of the line of contact,” he noted.
The CSTO Secretary General expressed confidence that this complicated crisis can be resolved only through political means taking into consideration the interests of all Ukrainian citizens.
