Cooperation prospects were discussed at a meeting between Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Marianna Shchetkina and Georgia’s Ambassador to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia on 9 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament.
The parties discussed trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian cooperation. “Special attention was attached to the development of inter-parliamentary ties and the role of parliamentary dimension in strengthening Belarusian-Georgian cooperation. The parties took stock of the progress made in the implementation of the agreements reached during Marianna Shchetkina’s visit to Georgia in December 2018 (she took part in the inauguration ceremony for Georgia President Salome Zourabichvili). She also held working meetings with the prime minister, the speaker of the parliament and the minister of foreign affairs of Georgia,” the press service said.
Belarus and Georgia have the necessary potential to increase mutual trade and step up industrial cooperation, Marianna Shchetkina told the ambassador. A lift assembly plant in Tbilisi is a successful example of cooperation. Plans are in place to launch a joint venture to assemble small tractors in Georgia in 2019.
The parties talked over the prospects for bilateral partnership in agriculture, pharmaceutics, humanitarian area and tourism, and also the efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
