MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – About 3,000 people have already registered to take part in the Minsk Polo Marathon which is due to take place in Minsk on 13 September, First Deputy Head of the Sport and Tourism Department of the Minsk City Hall Andrei Pateyev told reporters, BelTA informs.
“The Minsk Polo Marathon that will be held on 13 September is the main sport event to celebrate Minsk City Day. As of 26 August, nearly 3,000 people applied for the event. Applications are open until 9 September,” said Andrei Pateyev.
The September sport fest is meant both for professional runners and amateurs. The event will feature three races: 5km, 10km and 21.1km. The maximum entrance fee for 10km and 21.1km marathons is €11. A 5km race is free of charge.
For the first time in the history of the Belarusian running movement, the Minsk half marathon will be held in the very heart of the capital: this year the route goes through the central avenues of the city – the Independence Avenue and the Pobeditelei Avenue. The participants will run along the iconic places of Minsk, Karl Marx Street, the Trinity suburb, Victory Square and Independence Square.
Many other sporting events will be held on the Minsk City Day. A powerlifting tournament will take place near the Sports Palace on 12 September. The route of the open roller marathon will go along Stoletova Street and the open city sailing competitions in the Optimist class will be arranged on the Minsk Lake. From 10 to 12 September the city will watch the outdoor tennis tournament. Mass sports activities will be held in all district of the capital city.
